- CivilWarLand in Bad Decline by George Saunders. Well written but just not my taste, too much farce.
- All This Could Be Yours by Jami Attenberg. A patriarch dies and all the family sh$t comes out, and boy did he damage everybody in the family.
- Blood River by Tim Butcher. The author recreates Stanley’s trip through the Congo. Illuminating and saddening and terrifying.
